Cognita has added Liceo Sorolla International School in Madrid to its global network, expanding its presence in Spain and strengthening its footprint in the capital.
The family-founded school becomes Cognita’s tenth in Spain and fifth in Madrid, joining a wider network of more than 100 schools across 21 countries.
Founded in 1963 and still run by the founding families, Liceo Sorolla educates more than 1,000 pupils aged two to 18. The school offers a trilingual education in Spanish, English and French and serves students from 25 nationalities.
Liceo Sorolla delivers both the Spanish national curriculum and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. The school has recorded a 100% IB pass rate since introducing the programme in 2016.
The school’s academic offer is supported by a wellbeing framework that includes personalised tutoring and a personal improvement plan for each pupil.
Germà Rigau, managing director for continental Europe at Cognita, said the addition marked a further milestone for the group’s growth in Spain.
He said: “Liceo Sorolla has built a strong school community rooted in academic ambition, innovation and student wellbeing. Becoming our tenth school in Spain and fifth in Madrid is an important step, and we look forward to working closely with the school within our wider network.”
Carlos Llorente Alonso, director of Liceo Sorolla, said joining Cognita would support the school’s long-term development.
He said: “For more than six decades, our school has combined academic excellence with innovation, wellbeing and a strong international outlook. This next chapter will allow us to expand opportunities for our students and strengthen collaboration across a global community.”
