The University of West London (UWL) has announced that its professor of screen industries, Emily Caston, has been named a trustee of the Film and TV Charity.
The organisation supports people working behind the scenes across the UK’s film, television and cinema industries, with a focus on mental health, working conditions, and financial and social wellbeing.
Caston is an internationally recognised scholar and the founding director of the Public Research Institute of Screen Media (PRISM).
A long-time collaborator with the British Film Institute (BFI) and former Film London board member, she will contribute to the charity’s research work, including the Looking Glass Survey – a major study into mental health among screen industry workers.
Caston said: “The charity’s research plays a vital role in shining a light on the challenges and opportunities facing people across our industry, and in driving meaningful change. I am delighted to be able to contribute my experience to support and amplify this important work.”
Her appointment underlines UWL’s wider involvement in creative industries research and efforts to support a more inclusive screen sector.
