Southwark Council has announced that it will be allocating exactly £2.08m for maintenance works at 13 primary schools across the borough as part of its 2025–26 upgrade programme.
Scheduled to begin in July and complete by March 2026, the works aim to improve safety and environmental standards at school sites, with a focus on creating “safe, warm, and well-maintained” learning environments.
The investment forms part of the council’s wider commitment to early years education and climate action.
Roof and drainage repairs are planned at Southwark Park, Tuke and Crampton primary schools, with additional roof and lighting upgrades due at Phoenix and Ilderton.
Drainage and glazing improvements are scheduled for Dulwich Wood, while timber work will be carried out at Bird in Bush.
Haymerle and Nell Gwynn primaries will receive roof, shutter and fire protection upgrades, and emergency lighting will be installed at Riverside.
Drainage and lighting upgrades are also expected at Victory and Keyworth, with roof repairs at Hollydale completing the package.
Cllr Kieron Williams, leader of Southwark Council, said: “Not long ago, Southwark’s schools were some of the lowest rated in the country. Now, we’re proud that 97% are rated good or outstanding by Ofsted.
“We’re building on this success by improving our school buildings, working with contractors so that all pupils can learn and grow in safe, secure places. We look forward to finishing this work next year.”
