Education leader Matthew Hood OBE has been appointed to work with the Department of Health and Social Care’s (DHSC) delivery unit to help ensure the government meets its health and care commitments.
Hood will work closely with secretary of state for health and social care Wes Streeting, focusing on the government’s priorities and supporting delivery during what ministers have described as a period of reform and transformation across the DHSC and NHS England.
Streeting has set out a plan to strengthen departmental performance and coordination across the health and care system. Hood’s role will involve supporting that agenda, helping to track progress and advising on emerging challenges.
Hood is the former chief executive and co-founder of Oak National Academy, the government-backed online learning platform established during the Covid-19 pandemic. He began his career as a teacher and school leader in Lancashire and later helped found Ambition Institute, where he led work on teacher development and leadership.
He has also served as an adviser to the Department for Education and was awarded an OBE for services to education.
The paid appointment began on 17 September 2025.
