Dr Helen Pain MBE is stepping down as chair of the trust board at Anglian Learning, as well as her role as a trustee of Joyce Frankland Academy, Newport and trustee of Anglian Learning.The multi-academy trust said that Pain has “championed the needs of all pupils, but especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds” and helped “ensure that our moral purpose is always at the heart of any decision making”.
Pain is the CEO of the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), a professional body and scientific publisher with over 500 staff based in Cambridge. During her career, she has led many of the RSC’s strategic functions including Education and Professional Practice, Science and Communities, Membership and RSC China.
She joined Anglian Learning’s board in April 2020 and later was appointed chair of trustees in the summer of 2023.
Anglian Learning said: “We would like to thank Helen for her leadership of the board, and for providing invaluable support and challenge in guiding our trust through a period of substantial change, which has included growth, reorganisation of shared services and responding to the ongoing financial uncertainty that we and the wider education sector face.”
Dr Helen Pain previously received an MBE from the King at the 2024 New Year’s Honours, with the award recognising her “significant contributions to science”.
On receiving her award, she said: “I am immensely proud to be honoured and recognised for my services to science. I have been privileged to work with so many outstanding individuals and talented teams who share my passion and commitment to the science profession.”
